3WW - Cheek Turns

Bone, of If You Read Only One Blog This Year, chose three perfect words for his Three Word Wednesday prompt (or challenge, depending on your mood, I suppose):

REACH -- HEAVILY -- CHEEK

I reach
with balled fist
but my arms drop
heavily
to my side
as my mind flashes
words heard once
(or twice)
Turn the other cheek.

"Why?" I cry out
instead
(in an attempt
at calm)

but words replied
cancel those
that flashed --
My fist turned
the other cheek.

I took great delight in the words above, must be the devilishness in me; certainly just the adjective, however, not the noun or direct object or whatever. Make sure you click on the link at the top. Creative people love to play 3WW, you will be surprised at what you find.

These words are not meant to be copied, but left here, in my world. Links are fine, however. Thank you.

Well I don't know if I am first here because you moderated them, arg...I did a story and it's good. I was thinking of going that way. I used to always tell people that bible verse meant turn the other cheek once only. If hit again then pound them like there is no tomorrow. The Sunday school teachers never liked my interpretation.
It's nice to read the internal struggle someone is having with themselves. I turn the other cheek quite often, then again that is my job.

That is so perfect, especially the ending: My fist turned the other cheek. Haven't we all felt that urge?

Flash of brilliance, and one worth publishing. I hope you'll look for a home for this one.

Clockworkchris - I understand why some didn't like your interpretation, but there are many days I would defend yours all the way! Well, except the no tomorrow part of it, I may have to toss that one back at you now that you are an adult, grin. Thanks for reading and commenting, first, Chris.

I imagine Sunday school teachers didn't like the interpretation Chris gave, however it makes sense to me. Very nice. I have been reading 3WW over at the spot on the web Bone occupies, but never taken the challenge as my own. An attempt was made this week, but I read the poetry and words that you guys post and am inspired to take the time to write again. (Grad school turned me off for a while.)

Gay - Thank you for the confidence. I dream.

Kontan - We love inspiring people. Glad you are going to take the time to write!

Thank you both for commenting!

i like your poem. i didn't think of 'turn the other ... ' at all, when i read 'cheek' - maybe because i'm not too good at it. :o)

Alisonwonderland - I'm surprised I thought of it. Turning the other cheek is not always the wisest thing. Thank you for commenting today!

I didn't think of turn the other cheek, either. But my story did wind up with some violence. Come to think of it, I used the phrase "fists balled" too.

Turning the other cheek is a very hard thing to do, and maybe not usually our first instinct.

Bone - Sure is easier to write about turning the other cheek than doing it. Thanks for commenting today.

That ending works fine here. It does speak about those nner conflicts.

Gautami Tripathy - Glad you felt the ending worked. Thank you for taking the time to comment!
